British brother and sister Tom and Mary O'Brien formed the folk group the Springfields in the early on '60s, as well as adopting the group name as their concluding proper noun -- Tom O'Brien became Tom Springfield, and Mary O'Brien likewise changed her first proper name, becoming Dusty Springfield. They had several U.Yard. nautical chart entries every bit well every bit making the American Top 20 with "Argent Threads and Golden Needles" in 1962, but by 1964 they had divide upwardly, with Dusty Springfield launching a successful career equally a pop singer. Tom Springfield turned to songwriting and producing, taking up with an Australian folk quartet that had relocated to England, the Seekers. The group -- lead vocalizer Judith Durham, Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley, and Athol Guy -- had a vocal audio that resembled the Springfields, which fabricated it like shooting fish in a barrel for Tom Springfield to write for them. They were signed to EMI Records' Columbia imprint (no relation to the American Columbia Records visitor), and Springfield gave them "I'll Never Find Some other You," a catchy folk-pop song with a distinctive guitar riff and lyrics pledging romantic devotion. The group's precisely rendered harmony vocals and that acoustic guitar function ready off the otherwise excessively idealistic (even vaguely religious) lyrics, and the unmarried, released in early 1965, topped the British charts in late February. EMI's American subsidiary, Capitol Records, released it in the U.S. to almost equal success, a Top Five ranking, fifty-fifty though the recording sounded similar a throwback to the pre-British Invasion folk boom and hits similar the Rooftop Singers' "Walk Right In" and the Serendipity Singers' "Don't Let the Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man)." Two years later, country singer Sonny James revived "I'll Never Notice Another You lot," topping the state charts with it in August 1967. Since then, the vocal has been a folk favorite, 1 that many people probably assume was written long earlier 1964.
